“The Colourful World of Fish”, is a window exhibition at St Ives Ceramics running until the end of September. It is inspired by a recent visit to the Maldives and snorkelling on the reefs. John was struck by the huge variety of complex and colourful patterns the sea creatures displayed. It is part of John’s celebrative works for his 60 years as a potter, a career which started at a small South London pottery in 1964.
John admits that he could never try to imitate their complex and intriguing designs, but that he has re-fashioned from them his interpretation of their beauty. He regards them as part of a storyboard on an exploration into design, both in the natural world, and human crafts.
